What is Truong Ly Design?
Truong Ly Design Inc. is a principal-led spatial design practice based in Toronto with team members in Istanbul, Buenos Aires, Warsaw, and Da Nang. The practice is hospitality-led and brings that discipline to residential, commercial, and mixed-use developments.
What kinds of projects does the practice take on?
Multi-unit residential, hospitality and hotels, senior living, commercial, exhibition, and office. Different scales. Different programs. Same practice.
What does principal-led mean in practice?
The principal stays on the project from concept through documentation. Direction is not handed off after the pitch, and the person who sets the idea is the person who defends it in the details.
How does the practice work with developers and operators?
The practice works from the pro forma outward, not from the mood board inward. Layout efficiency, amenity programming, durability, and turnover cost are treated as design problems rather than constraints applied after the fact.
What is the design language built on?
Five pillars: patchwork, gradient, asymmetry, distress, imperfection. They describe a preference for lived-in atmospheres over perfected environments, and for material choices that improve as they age.
Where does the practice work?
Toronto is the base. The team is distributed across Istanbul, Buenos Aires, Warsaw, and Da Nang, which lets the practice work across time zones and take on projects outside Canada.
